Here’s Great Tip: The Big Lie of Small Business | Vusi Thembekwayo | TEDxUniversityofNamibia

Here is Something You Should See…

A small Business can be a success, a small business doesn’t have to stay small. Africa like many places is full of small businesses and struggling entrepreneurs, from small shop owners to street vendors. Vusi challenges the African business community as a whole to help grow these entrepreneurs as most businesses need capital and other forms of support from the more well established businesses and for bankers to play their part. As a continent Africa can become an economic giant of the world.

Known as a “Rock star of public speaking” Vusi is the only speaker globally to have been invited to the Dragon’s Den as an investor. This is because he has built several businesses. Today, as Chairman of Watermark Afrika Fund he is spearheading a pan-African process of raising the largest Growth Fund of high growth, high potential entrepreneurs in Africa.

This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at

  1. It is a myth to be in a small business. Most of the truly small businesses last for very short time or never get off the starting point.
Only ones that do succeed are subsidized. Or they are very substantial and large. Small businesses are myths. We know day labor who are one man show who are actually gig economy participants. But they don’t have a long term business. Just very short term gigs. The rest of them don’t survive for more than few months. Most businesses I know in the USA are going out of business. Subsidized businesses are artificial.

  2. "We could blame colonialism and in my country apartheid as long as we want, but there is a deeper problem, and the deeper problem is our inability to understand the ecosystem and life cycle of our entrepreneurship". We have to understand what birthed our inability and birthed the ability in whites or ABSA. Our inability to do something is the by-product of colonialism, in my country apartheid.

  3. White are white people considered blah blah blah just because we are white?
Acting like a victim is what holds all people back. Blaming others is also what holds anybody back.
If you ignore his race talk, it actually is good advice.
But also, when he starts mentioning blacks being wronged around 11:48, it was edited to cut out something he said.
I wonder what it was and who he blamed. Who did he point the finger at for their failures? I guess we will never know! XD

  4. Thank you Vusi, I am late on this video (I follow you on FB), but it is time to reshape Africa. China was clever, they have access to all our minerals and they flood our markets. We need to claim it back. We will all rise again, because as you say, "nobody knows who we are and I like it that way…..because no one can see us coming" I like that. We have brilliant artists and artisans….We all have the ability, but most do not have the faith . Believe in yourselves and your creator. .Amen

  5. Writing these words about to got to bed. Feeling really inspired by this man and getting really into meeting him someday. Here in Spain it's not easier than in Africa. Again, really inspired by Vusi. Gonna try as much as I can.

  6. Every Gift and Talent given to mankind must be use to serve the purpose of the Light. Illuminati uplift the works of men. it gives fame, riches, wealth, power and supernatural protection.

  7. Now the myth has been broken. It's time to start and now is the time. Yes NOW! Africans arise from thy slumber and let your impact be felt on global level. We have untapped human and natural resources.
